The world's oldest land animal, 185 year young
#1
Jonathan the tortoise lives at the Governor's Mansion on the British Isle of St. Helena. He comes from the Seychelles and arrived around 1882. He is probably 185 years old, though exact dates are hard to verify. Let's just say he is old. He still lives a good life with other tortoises and enjoys his food.

Now that St Helena has an airport people will be able to see Jonathan, but they will not be able to disturb him. At his age he has earned the right to live in peace.

He has lived past the expected 150 year lifespan and he still seems to be going strong. He has slowed down over time, but his is a slow species anyhow. So it is true that slow and sure wins the race or at least keeps you going. Think of how many human care givers he has outlived. I wish him many more years.
