Happy Iguana Awareness Day!

Iguanas are special and they deserve their own day.

I am sure if you have an iguana in your life you can find a way to celebrate it.

There is indeed an Iguana awareness day. I pointed out to a volunteer that we should try to be aware of Iris our 4 foot iguana.
Then we just fell apart laughing because how can you not be aware of a 4 foot lizard who likes to be around us, especially if there are vegetables involved.

So to answer your question Sameerluvanimals, Iguanas are easy to feed. They are mostly vegetarian. When they are young they need some insects(super meal worms will do). Older iguanas should have insects now and then. For the rest of their meals they get handfuls of collards, kale, dandelion greens, turnip greens, romaine lettuce  and even bok choy. The also get butternut squash, carrots, peas, green beans, bell peppers and  . They like grapes and mangos.

This is a really good list incase anyone reading this wants to feed an iguana.

If you look down the list you can see there are lots of choices. The foods sometimes need to be peeled and or chopped, but it is not that hard to do.

Iris comes to us when she is hungry or if she sees something she wants. I have had her pull at my pant leg when she wants fresh water.

It was love at first sight for her new person.  We miss her, but having her own home again is a good thing. Iris wasn't sure she wanted to share her space with such a cute young iguana.
