California to ban caged hens by 2022.
#1
California has brought in rules that demand a certain amount of space for hens, veal calves and pigs.  Now they want to go further and ban the keeping of the animals in small cages. They may still make adjustments in the how and when, but the intention is reduce animal cruelty in farming.

The new law, Proposition 12 would also ban the sale of Cage eggs brought in from other areas. Companies won't be able to get around this by bringing in out of state cage eggs. If this all goes through it is a real commitment to improving the lives of farm animals.

Farmers are going to have to plan their facilities differently. Hopefully farmers in neighbouring states will be influenced to change so that they don't lose the California market. It may take time, but things could improve for farm animals in one place at least.
