Pets get status in California divorce courts
#1
I know it is only one place and it is only to do with what happens to pets during a divorce, but it is still a significant change. Up until now pets have been considered part of the property to be split up. Now the judge can take into consideration the well being of the pet and who will best look after its needs.

Hopefully this change will work out and the idea will spread. So often when people split up the pets are not considered. They don't always do well. If they end up with the partner who didn't want them they can end up being neglected. A family break up is hard on the pets. They should be given every consideration. If the courts can do this it will help out the pets in California at least. Maybe the idea will spread.
