It's a baby Whale!!!

The Atlantic Right Whales are having a difficult time. There numbers are really declining. There have been no births in 2018....until now.  Someone observing the right whales saw something that didn't make sense and then he realized that it was a calf!

This should be the beginning of the breeding season. There are fewer and fewer adults left and fewer and fewer calves born.
Seeing a baby like that is cause for hope. Measures have been taken to help the whales survive. If they can produce some healthy calves and the calves can survive then the species has a better chance of survival.

There is just one more concern amidst the rejoicing. The USA is going to allow off shore blasting for gas and oil exploration.
This will harm more than the whales, but it will certainly be harmful to the already endangered right whales.

This is hopeful. There are lawsuits pending to try and stop the oil companies from drilling and blasting.

It is important that the whales be protected. There are so few breeding females left and so few calves have been born in recent years. Every calf born this year must survive. The species is counting on them.
