Killer whale matriarch starving to death
#1
Sad
Smiley19 This is heartbreaking. The matriarch of the southern resident killer whale pod is dying of starvation. The salmon stocks are so depleted that whales are having a hard time finding enough food.  Losing their matriarch will have a terrible impact on the pod.

I don't know if there is anything they can do to help her and her pod. We are watching a population of killers whales die out.
Every year things are getting worse and worse. All the attention now may be too little too late. One of the scientists put it so well when he said it would have been better if we reacted sooner while the whales were in better shape.

I know we have brought animals back from the edge, but this time it is awful close. It is going to take work and luck to save them. We are protecting more of their waters now, but that doesn't bring back the salmon. Smiley19
