Happy Groundhog Day!
#1
Feb 2 is Groundhog Day. One Saturday morning local groundhogs will come out of their dens and  if they see their shadows there will be six more weeks of winter. If they don't see their shadows we will have an early spring.  For those of us who live in a frozen world even a weather predicting rodent makes winter seem shorter.

Wiarton Willie is my closest groundhog and I trust him to tell me if spring is coming.

A little point of fact: Feb 2 is the half way point of winter. We have lived through 6  weeks and there are 6 more weeks until spring, the vernal equinox happens.
After 6 weeks of winter, if a furry rodent says early spring I am quite happy to hope for the best. It does help me to get through the next six weeks. Six more weeks, I can do it. It is only six more weeks.

Yes February 2nd is Candlemas, the cross-quarter day, so we are halfway to Spring! It already has begun to go dark later in the afternoon.

Happy Groundhog Day! But if that Groundhog has any sense, he will go right back in his den!

What can I say, it is now 1C and foggy and Willie did not see his shadow. That means....EARLY SPRING!!!!

Having said that Willie will go back into his den and sleep some more weeks.

I think this is a bit of a spoof, but it is cute.

None of my guinea pigs showed any interest in predicting the weather. They put all their efforts into getting an extra apple from me. Yes it worked, they got the apple.

I know the groundhog has a less than 50% accuracy rate, but I still intend to believe in his early spring prediction.
The days are definitely getting longer so it feels more spring like already.
