The first climate change mammal extinction.
#1
The Melomys Rubicola has become the first mammal declared extinct as a result of climate change. They lived on a sandy bank in the Torres Straight. Their land was just 3 meters high and rising sea levels probably inundated the island at some point.

They were found to be extinct by a group of rescuers who came to move them to safety. It was too little too late.
They needed to move faster while there were still some Melomys Rubicolas to save.

We have failed this species. If we  have another rescue situation we need to act quickly. This species all died because rising seas flooded their land and drowned them all. Anyone who doubts global warming and rising sea levels should have to spend some time camping on the Melomys little piece of land.
