300 cats rescued from one apartment.
#1
Three hundred cats were rescued from a north Toronto apartment. Toronto Animal Services and the Toronto Cat Rescue were alerted when neighbours complained of the smell. They arrived expecting to find about 70 cats. The number turned out to be much higher. Some of the cats are at a vet clinic in the area. The rest are in Toronto Cat Rescue foster homes.
Fortunately the cats are healthy and friendly.

This is the second large cat hoarding situation in Toronto this year.

I can't even imagine what it was like to have 300 cats in one small apartment. It wouldn't have been possible to keep them clean or well fed.  It would have been better if there had been an intervention much sooner. There is a spay/neuter clinic at the Toronto Humane Society so there is no need to have cats producing litter after litter of kittens. There was no need to keep all the cats. There are multiple cat rescues in the city.

Animal hoarding is a strange problem. People sometimes start out wanting to help the animals. Sometimes they believe that they are helping the animals.

The cats are going to be better off. It is going to strain the resources of  the cat rescue groups in Toronto, but somehow all the cats will find homes.
