Saving Biodiversity is a global emegency.
#1
The UN report warns that 1 million species are at risk of extinction. This is not just a matter of losing pretty animals and feeling sad about it. Loss of biodiversity destabilized the whole ecosystem of the planet. Every creature has a part to play, something to contribute. Every loss of a species puts us all at risk of losing everything. This is as much of a crisis as global warming. Because we are the cause of both problems they are really one problem. We need to act soon if we are going to stop the crisis.

It is worth watching all the videos that come up. I am very impressed by the activists in London England. To bring awareness of the emergency they did things like glued themselves to roads and trains. People had to stop and notice them.

The UN report links biodiversity and healthy ecosystems to our economic survival. An example is coffee. Climate change is effecting the coffee plants and there will be serious consequences if the plants become extinct. Think about it. Many countries and there people depend on coffee as their main export. Without it they have no means of income.  Think of all the people involved in coffee production, from the people who ship it to the people who roast and prepare it. Think of all the coffee shops and places coffee is consumed. Coffee is not a small part of our human activity and economic survival.
Many species have high impact. Bees are responsible for a significant percentage of our food supply. The loss bees would be catastrophic.

Of that 1 million at risk species, there may be something we have overlooked that is a keystone species, essential to the survival of all of us. We just don't know. We can't just let species become extinct.  If we won't act to save biodiversity for good reasons then at least we should do it because our own survival is at risk.
