Calgary Adoptathon finds homes for 50 cats
#1
Calgary Animal Services found its shelter at capacity, so they held a special adoption event. They dropped the adoption fee, threw in some free things and put out an appeal to the public. Fifty cats were adopted, so  most of the cats ready for adoption found homes. It was a big success!

This is really good news. In the past when a city shelter hit capacity they did euthanize. I don't know when Calgary stopped doing that, but clearly they chose to do something  life giving and it worked.

I hope this is part of an evolution of all shelters becoming no kill shelters. It is not 100% yet, but most shelters are really trying. If they can't adopt out all the animals in their own area, they arrange to send them somewhere where they can find homes. Three cheers for Calgarians that they did their part towards clearing an over crowded shelter.
