Death of a female Right Whale a terrible loss
#1
A female Right Whale, known as Punctuation, has been spotted dead in the gulf of St Lawrence. Punctuation has been studied by scientists for years and has been known to successfully raise calves. Losing even one Right Whale is serious when a population is so at risk. Losing a special female like Punctuation is a devastating blow to the whole population.

There is a desperate fight going on right now to save the Right Whales. Areas have been declared off limits to fishing. There are speed limits on shipping in some areas. They are going to try and recover the body so they can determine a cause of death. If there is something else we need to do to protect the whales maybe we can do it. I just hope it is enough to keep the population of Right Whales going. We have done so much in previous generations to diminish the whales. If only we have enough time to save them. All our best efforts still might not be enough.
