Helping the salmon to spawn with a helicopter
There has been a serious rock slide on the Fraser river in BC. It is the beginning of salmon spawning season and many fish will be seeking a way up the river to the spawning grounds. They are working on clearing the rock slide, but it will take time and the salmon need to spawn now!
So they have built a holding pool and they will start transporting fish upstream by helicopter.

It is an ambitious plan, but it could work.  Every fish that makes it to the spawning ground gives the species a better chance of survival. It will take a helicopter. The river runs through some rugged mountain terrain and there are no roads in some places. I wish them every success with this and I really hope they get a fish ladder in place before the main salmon runs later in the summer.
