Earth worms and climate change
#1
As climate change progresses and species continue to move further north scientists have a new issue to be concerned about. Earth worms are moving further north. Some species of earth worm release carbon when they break down leaf litter. Some earth worms trap carbon.
So we have two effects. It is unclear whether migrating earth worms are going to contribute to global warming by releasing carbon, or help fight global warming by trapping carbon or will they have a neutral effect in the end.

Just when you think you understand global warming and climate change a whole new issue comes to light. It is not just what impact will earth worms have on carbon levels. It is also unclear how these earth worms will effect our forests. Will they reduce the native vegetation by their behaviour and even reduce the viability of some ecosystems. We don't have any answers yet. It seems we have a whole new set of questions.
