Dog tests weak positive for Corona Virus
#1
The dog of a person with Corona Virus has tested positive for the virus. It is however a weak positive. That means the dog might not actually have the virus. It may be more of an environmental contamination because of being in the presence of an infected person. More study is needed and the dog has been quarantined.

I am glad they are reacting calmly to this and using it as a chance to study the virus better. It has not been shown that cats and dogs can even get the Corona Virus. This is not proof that they can.  The dog may have the virus in its system because of exposure to it.
That is not the same thing as being infected. In future it would be best not to expose family pets to the virus. Infected people need a tighter quarantine and pets need to be protected from them.

I am hoping the dog turns out to be uninfected. If it is actually infected it would seem to be a mild case. If I find out more I will post it.

I am not sure this article clarifies things much, but it is clear that it is considered unlikely that a dog or cat would get Covid 19.

I think they are right that pets could help calm their owners. Certainly sharing quarantine with a pet would make the time go better.
I just hope that the calm attitude continues and that people don't end up panicking. Animals never do well when people panic.
