Poachers kill 2 of the world's 3 white giraffes
#1
There were only three white giraffes in the world. They are not albinos, they are leucistic. Colour production is inhibited in certain cells.
They can have dark eyes or other pigment  areas. These giraffes are rare and beautiful. Poachers have killed a mother and her son. She was the only female of this rare colour. They killed them and left their bodies behind.

This is a rare mutation and it could easily be lost for all time. Even if the last white giraffe has offspring they may not be white. It could take generations to produce more white giraffes. Giraffes are declining in numbers anyhow and we run the risk of losing them. We may never see another white giraffe. These poachers have taken something from the giraffe species, but they have also taken something special from the rest of us. They have senselessly killed something of beauty and made the world a less beautiful place.

Poachers destroy and take away from all of us. Maybe we need a global effort to stop poachers.
