Sign to end the practice of horse soring
#1
Soring is a practice of damaging a horse's legs and feet so that the horse will  pick up its feet in an exaggerated gait. It is cruel and painful and needs to be stopped.

I can't imagine how this practice started or why it persists. It seems bizarre to even think of deliberately hurting a horse.
Why do they even want the horses to walk like that.

This seems to be an American practice, on the whole. I hadn't even heard of it before. It is cruel and unnecessary.

Now that I read more about it I am even more shocked that anyone would choose to do something like this to a horse.
The high stepping is interesting, but it is not worth hurting an animal to get it to do it.  It is a bit of an unnatural gait for a horse.
Why can't people be satisfied with animals being what they are naturally.

I wonder why this practice seems to be almost exclusively in the USA?

I have no idea why this is a local practice in the USA.
It is only done for certain breeds so that might be the answer. Only certain breeds are expected to walk with a high step. It looks like the practice started to make the horses walk a certain way.

It is totally cruel so I can't imagine who would have started such a thing.
