Pets in the middle east abandoned over pandemic fears
#1
People in the middle east are panicking about the pandemic and abandoning their pets. There is no proof that our pets pose any danger. There are only wild internet rumours.
The World Health Organization recommends good hygiene with regards to pets and everything else. It states that the main source of transmission is human to human.

There is no need to fear our pets and there is no need to abandon them. They are not a danger to us.  Sadly many healthy happy pets will suddenly find themselves on the streets for no good reason. What was once a loving companion animal will now be a frightened confused stray just barely managing to survive.

If you can't do anything to help the abandoned animals, at least be careful what you post. Misinformation can do a lot of harm. Wild rumours might seem harmless, but to a frightened cat now living on garbage it is a life and death issue.

Humans are always trying to pass the buck. Humans caused this virus to mutate and transfer from wild animals to humans, by selling and eating them in the "wet market" of Wuhan. Then it spread rapidly amongst humans, via human interaction.

Humans are to blame, and only humans. Pets are not the carriers of this terrible virus. Humans are.

This one is our fault and we need to take responsibility for it.  No helpless animal should suffer because of something we have done.

There are alternative theories that this virus escaped, or was stolen, from the secret biological research facility at Wuhan. If that is true, then even in that scenario it is humans who are at fault.

This is definitely not true. I would have to look for the articles I have read about it. They can tell from the genetic makeup of the virus. They can usually trace the origins of viruses from a number of features. They have no quite sorted out the exact transmission origin, but they have narrowed it down.

We may never know exactly how this outbreak happened, but it is clear that it happened because of our improper interactions with nature.
The wildlife trade is cruel and harms endangered species. It seems it also endangers us as a species.
