Pasados's Safe Haven has set up a program to pair off children with shelter animals. They write to an animal at the sanctuary and they will get a letter from the animal and a picture. The children will learn about the lives of the animals through this program.

This is a good way to teach children about animals and their needs. Right now the children can't visit the animals, but a letter is a very personal way of connecting.
The children can learn at the same time as they send and receive letters.
