Indus Dolphins are making a comeback
#1
Indus Dolphins inhabit the Indus river system. Once they ranged from the Arabian Sea to the Himalayan Mountains. Human activity, in particular dams that have broken up the flow of the river, have contributed to the decline of the dolphins.
Conservation efforts and the rescue of dolphins caught in pools and canals is having a positive effect. The dolphin numbers are better.

The dolphin numbers have improved. However they tend to live in a small part of their territory. So it is an improvement and not. It does matter that there are more dolphins. It would just be better if they covered more of their territory. That would require some changes to how the river is managed. Whether the desire to save the dolphins will have real results in a practical habitat restoration project  remains to be seen.
