2020 Faroe Islands whale hunt
#1
I am incredulous!  I cannot believe that with all that is going on in the world right now, any country would hold a whale slaughter. The Faroe Islands went ahead with their annual brutal slaughter of whales. They turned the sea red with the blood of gentle marine mammals.

It was hoped that the Covid 19 restrictions would be enough to stop the slaughter. After all only 10 people can gather at a time.  In this case however an exception was made and people were allowed to come together for the butchery.

It seems our season of human deaths has not made us more compassionate to animals. We are capable of the same brutality this year as we have been all the other years. The  killers not only risked themselves, they put animal rights groups at risk if they wanted to fight this slaughter.

What will it take for this brutality to end. It seems millions of people sick globally is not enough of a distraction.
Minimally, we need to boycott anything  or any product that comes from the Faroe Islands.
This must be stopped somehow.

Tragic. Appalling. Depressing. Shocking. Disgusting. Cruel.

I agree, Catherine, the only way likely to succeed would be if people refused to buy anything from the Faroes Islands. However, it is not easy to identify items from there, as they may well be marked as Danish products. "They form a self-governing overseas administrative division of the kingdom of Denmark." - from https://www.britannica.com/place/Faroe-I...ntic-Ocean

If you remember from other threads in previous years, the parents even take their young children to watch the slaughter. That hardens their hearts and instils the idea that cruelty is acceptable. That is the way this barbarity has survived for so many years.

This is a form of child abuse. It damages generation after generation of children.
I almost wish some United Nations body could step in and charge the parents for damaging their children. Maybe children who are traumatized by this could sue the adults for subjecting them to trauma.

This slaughter should simply be stopped because it is so obviously wrong. However that seems to have no effect.
We will have to boycott all Danish products as well.

They could choose to establish other forms of income like sheep and wool products. They could raise goats and try to grow different crops. Relying on fishing and whaling is not economically sound. The oceans are in trouble and many species are endangered. The slaughter could end one day because no whales come back.

We have already discussed the fact that it is not safe to eat the whale meat. So there really is no point to the slaughter. The people of the Faroe Islands have become brutal killers and they don`t want to give up their killing.  It is the same for all the brutal animal slaughters that take place in the world. There is no good reason for the  slaughter and the brutality of it all. The people just want to keep their blood lust and these so called traditional slaughters are a legal way to keep killing.
This doesn`t make humanity look too good.

Couldn't agree more.

We are definitely not the nicest species on the planet or at least some of us are not nice. We have good people too. The majority of people are neutral.
They wouldn`t kill the whales, but they wouldn`t do anything to stop them being killed. We need these people to choose a side. You can`t be indifferent to atrocities without in effect condoning them.
