Beavers build a Dam on a river in Calgary
#1
I know exactly where they have built the dam and I am impressed.  The Bow River is pretty big and deep in spots. It does split to go around the island that houses the Calgary Zoo. The place the beavers have chosen is narrower and this time of year the water would be lower.  There are a lot of trees on the island so there is a possibility of supplementing their food supply. It is a great spot for them.

It is however right in the city. A busy road runs along the river bank right past the dam.
This is yet another sign of how animals are taking over in our absence. The beavers felt safe building a dam even with cars  rushing by.

I hope this dam location works out for them and they have a good winter. It should be okay. It is true about the spring water levels however. Calgary has been known to flood. They are going to need to make the dam much stronger if it is going to survive the rush of spring runoff from the foothills.
I will be even more impressed if they can keep the dam going all summer.
For now I am just hoping they winter safely.
