Four dogs fell in the river, one died
#1
Last week a man tried to rescue a dog from the ice of the North Saskatchewan River. He was swept away and presumed drowned.
Even though it is all over the news, 4 more dogs ended up in the same river. One dog made it to shore on his own. Fire crews worked to rescue the other three.
Sadly, one didn't make it.   So far they have had 48 ice rescues from Jan 1, 2021 and April 7.

That is a lot of rescues. It is not just that some are not successful. Every time a crew is trying to rescue a dog on the river, they are not available for other emergencies, many of which are life and death. They rescue crew is also risking their lives.
People need to keep their dogs on s leash when they are near the river. Many dogs just can't resist a river.  It is just too dangerous for them. The North Saskatchewan river is dangerous when it is frozen. The ice is not always solid. It is also dangerous in the summer because the river has a strong current.
The message is clear, keep your dog off the river.

This message is true for every body of water. Unless you know that it is safe for a dog, keep your dog on a leash, away from the water.
It is sad that every year dogs are lost and sometimes dog owners as well. These deaths are entirely preventable.
