Saskatoon asked to ban use of neurotoxins on pigeons.
#1
Saskatoon is having a problem with pigeons. They do need to find a way to control their numbers. They have allowed the use of a neurotoxin, Avitrol. In theory it will scare the pigeons off, but it is a poison and it does kill. It gets into the environment and effects other species.
Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation has a petition out against the use of the toxin. Other cities have banned its use. The hope is that Saskatoon will follow their example.

When I tried to look up Avitrol I found ads selling the product. I found articles praising it as good bird pest control.
There was very little on the poisonous effects of the product and the horrible way that the birds die.  Poison is a brutal way to deal with problem animals. It kills non target animals. It gets into the environment and the effects can last for years.
I could find how to instructions on how to poison birds and lists of effective poisons. Very little is being said or done against poisoning.

Right now PETA is one of the few groups responding to this issue.

I hope PETA can make this a big public campaign. Bird poisoning needs to be stopped.

Cruel and also highly dangerous. Dead birds will be eaten by various scavengers, thus spreading through the food chain.

This is a particularly nasty poison. Its effects are very cruel. You think they would have learned from the damage done by poisons like strychnine. If this poison gets into the food chain it will do a lot of damage.
