Unlicensed dog fertility clinics in the UK
#1
Since the pandemic  there has been a tremendous demand for puppies. In particular people want certain breeds. They are often breeds that do not reproduce naturally without help. Canine fertility clinics have been popping up all over. They do a number of things that are questionable. They use the human birth control pill to adjust the timing of litters. They do AI and C sections. These clinics have no vet associated with them. So untrained or poorly trained people are doing risky procedures on dogs. Many things they do are of questionable ethics.

This is like a new form of puppy mill. People are manipulating their dogs so they can make money by having puppies. The clinics are making money by helping them do this. The welfare of the dogs is the last thing being considered.  This whole area needs to be regulated. Serious surgical procedures should require a veterinary license. Use of untested medications should not be allowed. This whole area needs regulation before animals are hurt.
The number of clinics is increasing. A few years ago there was one illegal clinic, now there are 37. Something needs to be done and it needs to be done fast.
