New Marine Mammal Protections for Canada
#1
There are some new Marine Mammal Regulations that determine just how close you can get to various marine mammals. How close?  Not very! It varies depending on where, when and what species, but there are stiff fines for approaching Orcas or in any way bothering them. Technology like drones and fish radar are restricted. Fines could run as high as a million dollars and include jail time. These regulations apply to boaters and to things like kayaks and paddle boards.

All the marine mammal species are struggling and need us to leave them alone. Orcas in particular have declined in numbers. Without intervention to protect them the southern resident population could disappear altogether. It is now illegal to interact with a marine mammal in any way in Canada. It is the least we can do to give the whales and other mammals a chance.
