I couldn't find out much detail other than a short article. It seems that the owner of a Canine Hotel walked away and left the animals alone without care for a week.
Eleven dogs were dead. The survivors made it because they ate the dead.

It is a horrible situation. The dogs would not know why no one came to care for them. They would just know that as food and water ran out no one came.
The owners of the pets, living and dead have to live with the horror of what their pets went through. I understand the owner of the hotel has turned herself over to the police. The article is dated Aug 6 so this is an ongoing situation. If I find out more I will post it right away.
