Shelters and Rescues take in animals before Hurricane Ida
#1
Sixteen years after Hurricane Katrina, another Hurricane hit the same area. During Katrina animals were abandoned to fend for themselves. Many died.
This time, shelters and rescues outside of the storm area came in and removed animals from the shelters in the storms path. Those animals  are now safe and can find homes where they are. The local shelters are now in a position to take in animals that are  lost and wandering in the storm.

What happened to animals during Katrina was terrible.  Since Katrina, arrangements are being made for animals before the storm hits. Animals are flown to safety or driven out in vehicles. They are already safe before the real danger happens. We know a storm is coming days before it hits. I makes sense to rescue animals before the fact. This has been done before many of the hurricanes hit. It saves the animals the stress of going through a hurricane. It frees up local resources to deal with animals that are in need because of the storm.

After the disaster of Katrina we will never just let animals fend for themselves. People will do what they can to rescue them. We did learn something from Katrina.
