Shore bird nesting sites protected with electric fencing.
#1
An area in north Norfolk has taken measures to protect its shore birds from dog walkers and off leash dogs. When the birds are disturbed too often by dogs the eggs fail. The hatching rate goes way down. These are endangered birds. Their numbers are low enough as it is. They needed help.  Birds on the Brink and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust got them the help. They installed electric fences to keep people and dogs away from the nesting birds. The project was a success. Birds hatched and survived.

This is a good example of how we can help wildlife. A problem was identified, human activity disrupting nest sites. A solution was proposed and implemented.
The result was an increase in birds hatching.
This is what we need to do for wildlife. When our activities are causing a decline in species, we need to find a way to help. Then we need to actually do it.
Many species have returned from the brink because we have helped. This needs to be an ongoing thing. What they are doing in Norfolk is great. Now other areas need to find ways to protect nesting birds. Protecting the nests could be the difference between survival and extinction. Well done Norfolk.
