Kentucky builds Bat friendly bridge
#1
A bridge in Kentucky was found to need serious repairs. There were big cracks in the concrete and those cracks were found to be inhabited by grey bats.
The decision was made to produce a bridge that has bat habitats built into its design. The work was done while bats were hibernating. The bridge now has room for 1100 bats even though there were only 400 bats. By the end of the summer there were 1100 bats living in the bridge.

I  guess it is true, if you build it they will come. They created more space for bats that they needed and more bats joined them.
I think the idea is brilliant. If we build animal habitats into our construction projects everybody wins. The wildlife is not getting into places it shouldn't be, so there is no human wildlife conflict.  The wildlife has a suitable place to live. They can be safe and healthy. Being surrounded by wildlife is good for us. It keeps us in touch with the real  world. Wildlife plays a part in keeping  our living space healthy.

Bats eat mosquitos. We need bats. They are safer for us than pesticides.
