Toronto Zoo expecting a baby Orangutan
#1
Toronto Zoo has a number of Sumatran Orangutans. They are very much endangered in the wild due to habitat loss. The Toronto population is a genetically diverse group so they are important to the survival of the species.   Sekali, the mother is 29 and has one son who lives at the zoo. Budi is 15 and he was born at the zoo to Pupe the Orangutan who celebrated her 54th birthday last month. The baby is due in April and will be the first birth since 2006.

This is really special. I remember Budi when he was born. Pupe is such a good mother.  It was wonderful to watch her raise him. Now we get to see Budi  with a baby. His father was really good with him. I am sure he will be a good father. Budi was such a character when he was growing up. I can't believe he is grown up  and having a baby of his own.

The zoo is building a special new outdoor area for the orangutans. It will be a great place for the baby to play.

Even better, they want to install a water canon so the orangutans can spray the people visiting them.

Do I think the Orangutans would use a giant water pistol? Absolutely. Is there any chance that Pupe would have fun spraying people? Oh yes!
Will Budi teach his new baby to use it? Count on it.
Next summer visiting the orangutans will have a whole new level of fun.
