Quebec zoo is giving up its elephants
#1
The Granby zoo in Quebec is giving up its three elephants. This is in response to a government bill introduced by a Canadian Senator.
The bill would phase out elephants in captivity and ban many animals from roadside zoos. There would be stricter standard for how the animals could be kept.
It is known as the Jane Goodall Act and has her full support. It also has the support of the Toronto zoo, Calgary Zoo, Granby Zoo, Assiniboine Park Zoo and the Montreal Biodome.
This will not only protect elephants, it will protect lions, tigers and bears from the miserable lives they lead in roadside zoos.

This is a good thing for larger animals. When you keep one bear in a tiny cage so people can pay to see it, that animal is being exploited. This bill will stop such animal exploitation. It is a recognition that it is wrong to exploit animals. Now we have to hope it passes.
