Wildlife photographer's picture of a wolf used in trophy hunting ad.
#1
Naturalist and wildlife photographer Cheryl Alexander took a photograph of a lone wolf, Takaya who lived on Vancouver Island. The picture and the wolf are famous. A movie called Takaya: Lone Wolf was released in 2019. Sadly Takaya was killed by a trophy hunter in 2020.
Imagine Alexander's shock and horror to find her picture being used to advertise a trophy hunting company.

Trophy hunting of a number of species is still allowed even though most Canadians are against it. It seems that Canada's  copyright laws are no better that its wildlife laws.  They should not have been able to use the picture in the first place. They clearly thought they could do it. It is only because the photographer complained that the picture has been removed from the website. Alexander is pursuing legal action. I hope she is able to sue them. They should have to pay for what they did.
