Pine Martens released in England after 100 year absence
#1
Because of habitat loss and trapping, Pine Martens have been absent in England for 100 years. Under the leadership of the Devon Wildlife Trust, conservationists have been planning the release of Pine Martens in south west England. Fifteen Pine Martens have been brought from Scotland and carefully released. They have been fitted with radio collars so they can be monitored for their first months.  It is hoped that they will spread out, gradually establish themselves in the area and
slowly increase in numbers. These Pine Martens were released in Dartmoor. There are plans to release more Pine Martens in Exmoor next year.

This is a very important release of animals. Pine Martens will help stabilize the balance of wildlife in the area.
Gradually areas of England are being rewilded. The more species they bring back, the stronger and more stable the habitats will be.
This is an important step in a slow process. I wish the Pine Martens every success in their return home to England.
