After the 1980 eruption of Mt St Helen's, the area around the volcano was barren and lifeless.
Scientists brought in some gophers to a couple of locations and left them there for a day. They dug and moved soil all day long. Then they were removed.
Life returned to those areas and remains to this day.

It is incredible what gophers did in a day. We underestimate the eork of small animals. They areconsidered pests and yet they are key to ecosystem health.
Just one thought, why didn't they bring in more gophers and really restore the area.
