Eating turkey became the symbol of celebrating Thanksgiving in the USA. It is considered the cultural norm and everyone goes along with it.
Much of that turkey will be wasted. Most people don't really like the dry factory farmed turkeys.
They are so overbred to be a certain way that they are not normal. They have brief miserable lives that end horribly. Then they are wasted and mostly not eaten.
