The first Right Whale calf of the 2025 breeding season has been spotted. The first calf is always a hopeful sign. The Atlantic Right Whales are seriously endangered. There are only about 370 individuals left and only 70 are breeding age females. The species struggles to survive, but ship strikes and entanglements in fishing gear have killed many. Many of the calves that are born are killed. It is a fight to keep the species going.
Every time a new calf is spotted there is cause for hope.

The Right Whales need our help to survive. We need to adjust the speed and location of ships in the Right Whale territory. We need to work on cleaning up all the abandoned fishing gear in the oceans. The whales can survive, but they need our help to do it. We are the reason they are in trouble. Now we need to be the reason they survive.
