A Stellar Sea Eagle has appeared in a National Park in Newfoundland. They normally live in Japan and Russia.
The Stellar Sea Eagle is 25% bigger than our local Bald Eagles. They have an 8 foot wingspan.
There are less than 5000 of the birds left and this is the only one is the western hemisphere.
Even though the park is closed for the winter, the road will be kept open so people can come and see the visitor.

A little more info on the bird itself.

You have to wonder how it ended up in Newfoundland. I could see a bird making its way across the Pacific Ocean to Vancouver Island. Newfoundland is on the other side of Canada. I doubt he flew across the country. Someone would have seen him.
This eagle turned up along the New England coast of the USA in 2021. It has been in Newfoundland since 2023.
I am sure there is a story there, if only the bird could tell us.
It sounds like the bird got blown off course by storms. I wonder if he is trying to find his way back home.
North over the pole might do it. It will be interesting to see where he turns up if he moves again.
