A shopping center in Dallas Texas caught fire. It took 45 fire fighters to put out the fire. Smoke filled the building where there was a large pet store.
The firemen did try to rescue the animals, but they had all died of smoke inhalation. Most of the animals were small birds. In all 579 animals died.

This is heart breaking. Birds are so sensitive to things like smoke. They would have died so quickly that there would have been no chance to rescue them.
No cause for the fire has been given yet. We still don't know if there were smoke detectors or sprinkler systems.
It might not have helped the birds if there were. Birds are so vulnerable.
