Salthaven West Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center cares for a number of bats every year. It is a lot of work and very time consuming.
The clinic manager got the idea to prepare the bats and put them into hibernation. They have a big frig that is temperature and humidity controlled.
Bats can hibernate for months each winter. These bats are checked once a month during hibernation season. It is easier on the people caring for them and it is much healthier for the bats. The ultimate goal is to release the bats to the wild. Hibernation has health benefits and it imitates a more natural life.

Helping the bats hibernate is brilliant. They will be more ready for release in the wild if they have kept their cycles closer to normal.
The sign on the frig is needed, but it is also funny. You wouldn't expect to see a frig full of bats. Opening the door would be bad for the bats.
It might not be so good for an unsuspecting human.
