Happy Groundhog Day!

Happy Groundhog Day!
Will it be six more weeks of winter or an early spring.

Only the Groundhog knows for sure....or does he?

The truth is, Feb 2 is the halfway point of winter.
So, we have six more weeks of winter before spring.
In the winter weary north, promising us early spring helps us get through the next six weeks.
By then we will have forgotten what the groundhog predicted and we will see anything as a sign of spring.

We need a bit of a mid winter celebration anyhow.
So Happy Groundhog Day, however you want to celebrate it.

So what was the result? Who knows. The various groundhogs had different opinions.

All I can say is that the squirrels in my back garden were acting like it is spring already.
Maybe I will have early spring in my garden. I don't know about the rest of the country.

Oh, I didn't know that there are several different groundhog predictors. I always thought that the Pennsylvania groundhog was the one. He apparently predicted six more months of winter. I only knew about groundhog day because of the film of the same name. The film is actually very subtle. One needs to watch the small differences in each repeated event, as the man in the story gradually learns tolerance and concern for others, rather than self interest. Some people find it boring, because they think that the same scenes are being repeated. But actually, the man learns from each repetition and gradually evolves.

But I digress....let's hope that you have some good weather soon, Catherine!

You are right, Groundhog Day is a good movie and you are right about its subtleties. It has a very good message. I love the repetition of the Groundhog scene. Each one is different and that makes it interesting.

There are many groundhog prognosticators. Canada has a good number.

I see that Manitoba has a groundhog called Manitoba Merv. I don't know why he bothers. Manitoba would be happy if it only had 6 more weeks of winter.
Sadly it will be more than that no  matter what Manitoba Merv says.

We have Wiarton Willie, an albino Groundhog. He usually promises us an early spring. He doesn't always deliver, but he makes us feel good.
I am seeing 6 Ontario Groundhogs, but I have never heard of most of them.

I think the Groundhog idea is catching on and we are seeing new Groundhogs every year.

It is a bit of fun in the middle of winter, at a time when we need a bit of fun.

Our winter has not been that bad. We have had a few cold spells, but we have had some warm spells too.
It is more how short the days are that is wearing us down. From now on we will start to notice that the days are getting longer.
