It is time to celebrate the world's turtles.



Every year we acknowledge how important turtles are and how endangered they are.

Turtles have been around longer than we have. They date back 200 million years. They also live everywhere from the oceans to the driest deserts.
The biggest challenge they face right now is us. We have done so much damage to their habitats, especially the oceans.
On land they are in danger from our cars. Turtles on land are not fast, and we don't slow down for them.
People pick up turtles that they find outside. That turtle belongs where it is and it knows where it is going. Leave it there.
If you want to help, stop and let the turtle cross the road. 

Every year volunteers in various places make sure turtles make it across roads to nesting spots.
They watch and make sure hatching turtles make it safely to water. That is if they are aquatic turtles. 
There are turtles that live in deserts and do not want to be placed in water. Always know before you help.

Every year turtles in the ocean get cold shocked if they are in a costal area when the temperature drops. People rescue them from the cold waters and turtle sanctuaries warm them and if needed, have them to warmer waters. There is a lot we can do for our turtle friends.
