It's angry Blackbird season
#1
Red Winged Blackbirds are fairly protective of their nests. In a west end Toronto neighbourhood, people are having problems when the birds are nesting. When they nest near people's front doors, there is a problem every time someone goes near the door.

It is  just for nesting season. The rest of the year the birds are fine.

I find people's reactions funny. They walk along looking at their phones and suddenly something attacks them, then they panic.

People act like the birds are a dangerous animal.

They can be aggressive,  but they are just a little bird. There are limits to what they can do to you. People who walk calmly and cover their heads seem to do better. Definitely an umbrella or a hat would help. Running seems to be the worst thing you can do. The birds react to that.
Staying calm and being as non threatening as possible would probably help. The birds might even get used to the people who live in a house.
They are just trying to protect their nests. Maybe a little sympathy towards the birds would be good. The birds are not going away so people need to learn to deal with them.
