Ball Pythons are originally from Africa so a water treatment plant in Canada would not be ideal conditions. The snake is now in the care of Essex County Humane Society and is expected to make a full recovery.
They think the snake went down a storm drain and ended up in the plant. That would make sense. He would have been outside and seeking somewhere to hide.
Was he out by accident or was he dumped? That we don't know. Snakes are escape artists. Hopefully he makes a full recovery and is adopted to a good home.

Sulcata tortoises are native to Africa, but their numbers are declining. They are gone from some parts of their natural territory.
They released 500 Sulcata Tortoises into the southern edge of the Sahara Desert in 2021. Five years later the results are noticeable from space.
There are patches of green in the barren land.

The tortoises don't plant anything, they dig tunnels in the barren soil to escape the extreme desert temperatures. This allows water to penetrate the baked surface of the land. What water there is can now stay in the ground. Seeds, long dormant can now germinate. This isn't a sudden return of forests. It is a slow steady process of vegetation establishing itself in the barren desert. The return of vegetation has brought a return of insects and small animals. It is a gradual return of biodiversity.
The tortoises are Ecosystem Engineers that reshape the land for the benefit of other species.
This is wonderful conservation news. Birds that have been gone for decades are now returning to their natural habitat. Their natural habitat is now getting back the birds it lost.
Every action like this has a tremendous positive effect. Returning species do more for their home that we anticipate. Mom and calf had retreated to the woods by the road. People wanted to help. Finally a driver picked the calf up and carried him across the road
This year after 60 days the eggs still hadn't hatched. Karen and Richard were beginning to understand that they were not going to hatch.
They didn't want to give up, but they knew and were starting to grieve. Then another goose couple was hit by a car, leaving two young orphaned goslings.
It was worth a try. The two goslings were presented to Karen and Richard. They took the goslings in as if they were their own.
It took a day, but they walked away from their failed eggs to happily raise their new babies.

Dog walkers found nets full of hundreds of dead cat sharks on two different beaches. It is thought that they were part of a fishing catch that was tossed over board because it is not commercially valuable. It is possible they were caught in ghost gear. Hundreds of marine animals die each year because of lost or discarded fishing gear.

There are tons of lost fishing gear in the oceans. The loss of life is tragic. A single net kills hundreds of creatures and many nets are lost each year.
Discarded catches also result in much loss of marine life. Fishing trawlers scoop up everything, but they only keep what they can sell. The rest is not safely released back into the ocean alive. It is cast off dead back into the ocean. All the hundreds of animals that are caught by mistake are treated as garbage.
Whatever happened in Wales has a human cause. It is shocking and it needs to be stopped.

Ojibwe Spirit Horses are native to Ontario. They very nearly become extinct, but 4 mares were saved in a daring rescue. Their numbers are still few and their gene pool is limited. Every breeding must be carefully planned. With careful planning and work, there are now 200 of the horses. Sagehill farms took in 3 mares from one location and a stallion from another location. They are overjoyed to have two births.

These are special horses. They are not descended from the horses the Europeans brought to North America. They are very different.
It is important that we preserve them and continue to increase their numbers.
Two new births is a good sign that the breed is strong and will survive.
Conservation efforts have been preparing for their return. Seven birds were released in the capitol one night.
This bird is so important to the spirit of the country, people cried when they were released. Returning the kiwi means a lot. This project really matters.
Every effort is being made to ensure it works. Healing our lands and restoring our iconic local wildlife is something we all need to do.

A golden retriever puppy discovers the cat tower. After looking it over, it climbs inside and takes over the bed. The cat is not amused and expresses his feelings with swats from above. The dog just makes itself more at home. In the end they work it out.

It is a big cat tower. The golden retriever puppy takes over the lower bed, but the cat still has the upper bed to himself.
There is plenty of room for both of them. I predict that the cat will end up sleeping with the puppy.
I wonder what will happen when the dog gets bigger. Will it still be able to use the bed? If not, he is going to look so sad, sitting there looking at the bed he has outgrown.
