Reptilia is a reptile zoo in Ontario. They have some amazing animals an they know how to care for reptiles of all kinds.
That does not make it a good idea to abandon a reptile in the parking lot. This time it was a Florida Snapping Turtle in a plastic bin.
He is the size of a dinner plate. Leaving the turtle outside like that is very dangerous for the turtle.

It would be even more dangerous to release him. It is a Florida turtle. It can't survive in Canada. earlier this year an Australian turtle was released in an Ontario lake.
He was found in distress. They tried to save him, but he died from the experience.
Abandoning animals for any reason is a bad idea. This turtle was lucky, he was found in time.
There are places that will take animals. Don't leave them in the parking lot and don't turn them loose.
Sometimes you can't keep an animal, but you can do the right thing and give it to those who can care for it.

Thanks to a captive breeding program, the Booroolong frogs are being returned to NSW Australia. This time 1,200 are being released. Over the last three years 1,500 frogs have been released. Bad droughts in 2017 to 2019 decimated the frogs in the area. These frogs have a good chance of surviving and restoring the wild population.

This is very hopeful. It has only been a short time since the frogs were lost to the area.
The ecosystem is still there for them to return to and the thrive.
It is good when we put back species that have been gone a long time.
It is probably better when we can return them quickly to an area.
I hope we hear soon about how they are settling in and increasing in numbers.

Rockalina is an Eastern Box Turtle. She was taken from the wild as a baby and has lived almost 50 years in someone's kitchen. She mostly lived on the dry kitchen floor, eating cat food. Eastern Box Turtles are forest dwellers and they eat a variety of foods, none of them cat food. She was in such bad shape when brought to the wildlife sanctuary that they didn't expect her to live the night. She was too weak to even open her eyes. Now, eleven months later, a healthy diet and some sunshine have made all the difference. They thought she would lose a leg, but it recovered. It will always be deformed, but she can use it. The right care has made all the difference. Eastern Box Turtles are a social species so Rockalina now has a companion. She has been introduced to pebbles, a new hatchling Eastern Box Turtle. It is going very well. With the right care, Rockalina could live another 50 years.

https://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/roc...-9.7018623

Rockalina was lucky she was rescued in time. Some of her damage is permanent and she cannot return to the wild. She at least can live a happy life in a place that knows her needs and provides for them.
Baby turtles are so cute. I know it is tempting to take one home. However, few people can actually provide what the turtle needs to be healthy.
I don't think the people who took Rockalina had plans to look after her properly for almost 100 years. They meant well, but she would dead by now without the proper care from the wildlife sanctuary.
Remember, leave wildlife in the wild. It is not lost and it knows how to look after itself. If wildlife is injured, contact a local wildlife sanctuary. They can care for the animal and release it if possible. Especially, don't pick up baby turtles. Their care is more complex than you realize. Leave wildlife wild.

They are still getting used to life in Toronto. The zoo held a voting to select their names. The Female is Raya and the male is Komo.
I can't wait to see them. I can make it to the zoo in December. We lost our beloved Kilat in 2004. Kilat was special because he hatched at the zoo.
Now after months of looking at his sad empty enclosure we will be seeing beautiful young Komodo Dragons exploring the space.
If you can get a chance, you should go and see them. I know I will.

Cats are not the only ones that make mysterious trips. Could a Ball Python have made the trip? They are not that active and after they eat the like to lie around digesting their food. Maybe someone found Henry, took him home and then decided they didn't want him after all. Dropping him off at a drive through is a bit weird. An animal shelter would have been a better choice. Henry could have hitched a ride by getting in someone's car. Maybe that explains the drive through.
When you have an open mind to all forms of wildlife you can find friends anywhere.
Her little spider is so cute.
I have had relationships with my bathroom spiders. Not as close as hers. I never thought to give the spider a name.
Maybe I will name my spider in future. My spider comes down the wall and looks at me regularly.
Maybe she thinks of me as her pet and has given me a name.
Spiders are interesting. I hope you give them a chance.

Of course the two biggest are crocodiles, the saltwater Crocodile and the Nile Crocodile.
The next two are snakes, the green Anaconda ad the reticulated Python.
The Leatherback Sea Turtle is 8 feet and 2000 pounds.
The Komodo Dragon is 10 feet and 150 pounds.
The Aldabra Giant Tortoise at 4 feet, 550 pounds just doesn't seem so giant in comparison.
They are definitely bigger than we are and some of them live longer.
They also play vital roles in their ecosystems. As major predators they can regulate their ecosystems and they can be active in seed dispersal.
They are not just physically big, they are a big presence in their native habitats. Let us hope that they can continue in that role in years to come.
