Guinea pigs are sweet. I think you have to live with a piggie to really learn how wonderful they are.
The 6 facts are very much reasons why guinea pigs are adorable.
They missed a big one though. I give my piggie the same plate of veggies twice a day, every day and he is just as excited every time.
I won't mention the fact that some cats won't eat the same food twice in a row. A guinea pig will sit and munch away happily. Not like a dog that inhales its food in seconds. Guinea pigs are supposed to be chubby, so you never need to put them on a diet. Chubby looks good on a guinea pig.
They make the cutest noises when you are getting their food ready.

Yes they have good hearing. I think my piggie can hear when I am at the grocery store. He knows the sound lettuce makes in the bag.
Everything about guinea pigs is adorable.

That is a lot of guinea pigs. I can't imagine how many vegetables they go through in a day. I only have one guinea pig and I go through a lot.
People get guinea pigs because they are so cute as babies. They underestimate how much care they need as adults. They underestimate how fast they can breed.
A female can get pregnant at 4 weeks old. Her daughters can get pregnant at 4 weeks old. Mom gets pregnant again on the day she gives birth.
Even cats don't multiply that fast. Guinea pigs make great pets, but you can't keep males and females together and they do need a lot of fresh vegetables to keep healthy.

She has a pen on her front lawn so people can see them sometimes. She leaves veggies as treats so people can feed them and interact with them.
Adults and children like to visit during the times when the piggies are out there.

Then one day when she checked, the piggies were missing. The whole neighbourhood got involved with the search.
They posted pictures on social media so everyone knew the guinea pigs were missing.
A short time later the two guinea pigs were dropped off at the local human society.
This is so sad. Guinea pigs are such vulnerable animals. They are totally dependent on us for their care. If they are under fed or poorly fed, there is nothing they can do about it. I hope they can at least find foster homes for them all. Eventually they will all need to be adopted, but that will take time.
No doubt some females are pregnant, so there will be more soon.

Some of us have multiple pets so it is possible that our guinea pig could get into the dog food. Or we might just use dog food because we ran out of guinea pig pellets. Don't do it. Dogs are carnivores and have specific nutritional needs. Guinea pigs are rodents and herbivores and have very different nutritional needs.
In particular, guinea pigs can't produce vitamin C and require a steady amount in their diet. If they don't get it they will develop scurvy and die. Dog food has way too much calcium for a guinea pig and they can produce stones that will block the bladder. Dog food will destroy a guinea pigs health.

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/health/nutriti...2c7&ei=187

With pets it is best to stick to their own type of food. If a guinea pig eats a piece or two of kibble it will be fine, but a steady intake of dog food will make them very sick and probably kill them. Foods are prepared with the animals health needs in mind. It is best to feed the right food and have a healthy pet.
No doubt Cinnamon is doing the same thing. She is in an area of marshes and streams. It is perfect for her. Capybaras love water and they eat vegetation.
Capybaras are adaptable and capable of surviving. I wonder why they haven't spread further in the world. Lots of other species have spread. Possums seem to be turning up everywhere. Why not capybaras.

It was supposed to be a quiet day at Simcoe Humane Society, but a phone call ended that idea. Two people out along the local river called to say they found some guinea pigs. Twelve of them were dead, but they did rescue five. Sadly one died during the night. The four surviving guinea pigs are being cared for and will be available in a few weeks.
It is hoped that they can find who did this. The guinea pigs are a variety of colors and that might lead to the person who dumped them.
Guinea pigs are such gentle creatures and they are so vulnerable. They wouldn't survive outside this time of year. They wouldn't even know how to find food.
There is no excuse for dumping animals like this. They could have been left outside the shelter where they would be found. If they hadn't been found when they were, all of them would have died. It must have been a terrifying experience for them. I hope they find who did this. Even giving them a fine would send a message. It is not okay to dump pets.

He certainly wasn't expecting to find two guinea pigs. From his comments, I would say he has understood what it takes to look after guinea pigs.
I think he warmed up to the idea of guinea pigs very quickly. When you know what guinea pigs are like and how much care they need and you still like them, you are going to be a good piggie parent.
It is funny watching someone so big with a guinea pig.

When a worker arrived at Rice Lake City Farm, she had a real surprise. There was a box by the gate. Even more surprising were the four guinea pigs inside the box.
Farm sanctuaries usually take in farm animals. Guinea pigs are pets. The piggies are being cared for until a forever home can be found for them.

https://www.thedodo.com/daily-dodo/box-d...als-inside

The guinea pigs would have been confused and scared. I have a guinea pig who was left outside in a box 5 years ago. He is still a bit traumatized.
I hope the fact that there were 4 of them helps. They would have kept each other warm and maybe feeling a little safe. Boris was 4 weeks old and all alone.

There are good ways to rehome pets. Abandoning them in a box is not one of them.

I have a feeling I am going to be rescuing a mother daughter pair of skinny pigs. It looks like they are going to need a home. Unless something changes I will bring them home on Saturday. So Boris will no longer be an only guinea pig. They would live in Boo Bunny's enclosure. It has been sitting clean and empty since Boo died last winter. It is perfect for two guinea pigs. They would be able to see Boris and talk to him. That would be nice for him.
I am assuming they are coming home so I will set things up got them. I will let you know what happens.

Hundreds of Capybaras have invaded an Argentinian neighbourhood. No one knows why they are there or how long they are staying. For now they are just there eating the grass and living their lives.

Whenever you think of being swarmed by animals it seems a bit ominous. However Capybaras are so cute and the babies are adorable. It is more of a cuteness overload that a swarm. It is an odd situation. No one really knows why they are there. They just arrived on day and so far they have stayed. If you are going to be swarmed, Capybaras are the best. They seem to be very calm and they don't hurt anyone. I would love a capybara swarm.
