Teeny, tiny baby Zion was five days old when he was brought into the kitten intensive care unit at the Arizona Humane Society. Zion couldn't walk. His back legs were not right and they wouldn't support him. So tongue depressors were used to create splints for him. The splints gave him enough stability that after a week he began to use his legs normally.  He has done so well that he has been able to rejoin the rest of his litter. Now he grows and thrives and looks forward to his adoption day.

That was a creative use of tongue depressors and some pretty creative first aid. It worked even though it was odd at first. Without that help Zion might not have learned to walk and he certainly wouldn't be thriving now. Well done Arizona shelter workers.

They thought outside the square and it worked very creative.

It was quick thinking and it worked. You have to admire how some people work.
I am glad the kitten is going to be okay. It is a sweet little one.

That was quick thinking and done at just the right time probably. If he had grown a lot with his legs like that he might have needed major surgery.

The poor little kitten looked so funny with his splints, but they did work. You are right, timing was everything. With out help at the right time he might never have been able to walk.
