The world celebrates the oceans on June 8.

The focus of many of the celebrations was cleaning waste from the world's beaches and shorelines.

Many people participated. It doesn't begin to clean-up the oceans, but it is a start. It at least focuses us on the need to clean-up.

Life on Earth is dependent on our oceans. We can't afford to mess up our oceans. Whatever we do on World Oceans Day to celebrate, we need to keep doing it all year round.
