Grolar bears on the increase?
#1
Grolar bears are a cross between a male grizzly bear and a female polar bear. A cross between a male polar bear and a female grizzly bear is a pizzly bear.
(How is that the best name they could come up with.) By studying bear DNA in the arctic they have confirmed eight grolar bears. As the climate warms grizzly bears can exist further north. A grizzly bear that wandered into the north was able to mate with a female polar bear. Polar bears evolved from grizzly bears several hundred thousand years ago. So far eight grolar bears have been identified. They are descended from one polar bear female. More probably exist, but they have not been identified yet.

Polar bears are struggling with climate change. Climate change is allowing the possibility of polar bear/grizzly bear hybrids. Will this hybridization help polar bears survive? It is too soon to tell. A polar bear with better adaptations to life on land would probably better survive the loss of the sea ice.
All of this is too soon to tell and requires more study. It does make more sense that it is a male grizzly that wandered north. A female grizzly with cubs would be unlikely to wander from her territory. A male polar bear is unlikely to wander south and inland. We shall see what the future brings for the polar bears.
No doubt they will adapt even if that means hybridization.
