Why are Toronto Pigeons so fat?

When you look around the city at our amazing collection of pigeons, they all look pretty rounded and chubby.
It turns out, it is all in their feathers. They are not fat, they are fluffy. They keep fluffed out because it is cold.

So I learned something new about our pigeons. They are fluffy, not fat.
They live out is the cold much of the time. The ones that hang around subway stations are actually outside the station most of the time.
They come in if they want to look for food or ride the trains. They have been known to do that. It is not that warm inside the stations anyhow.



Looking a them you can understand why we thought they were fat.
